“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
Matthew 24:37–39 · KJV
Read full passageKJV
24:37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
24:38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
24:39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Jesus directs attention back to the world immediately before the Flood. This room therefore begins by assembling what the surviving ancient texts actually say about that period before attempting to explain it.

8:1And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
8:2The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
8:3And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
8:4And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.
8:5And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
8:6And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
8:7And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
8:8Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
8:9But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
8:10And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
8:11And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
8:12And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
8:13And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
8:14And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
8:15And God spake unto Noah, saying,
8:16Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
8:17Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
8:18And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:
8:19Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
8:20And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
8:21And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
8:22While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

9:3Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
9:4But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
9:5And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
9:6Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
9:7And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
9:8And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

9:11And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
9:12And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
9:13I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
9:14And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
9:15And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
9:16And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
9:17And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
9:18And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
9:19These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
9:20And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
9:21And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
9:22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
9:23And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.
9:24And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
9:25And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
9:26And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
9:27God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

3 Maccabees is not part of the King James Version, so no KJV wording is inserted here. The ancient-text summary remains separate from the KJV layer.
2 Esdras / 4 Ezra 3:9–11
The Flood is recalled as universal judgment while Noah, his household, and the righteous descended from him are preserved.

3:9And again in process of time thou broughtest the flood upon those that dwelt in the world, and destroyedst them.
3:10And it came to pass in every of them, that as death was to Adam, so was the flood to these.
3:11Nevertheless one of them thou leftest, namely, Noah with his household, of whom came all righteous men.
Joshua 10:13 · 2 Samuel 1:18
Both cite a “Book of Jasher.” The museum does not identify the modern work commonly sold under that title with certainty as the lost biblical source.

10:13And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

1:18(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
Room VIII · Dead Sea Scroll Witnesses
Manuscripts from the Judean Desert
The Dead Sea Scroll manuscript material is not contained in the King James Version. This exhibit therefore preserves the reference summaries here without substituting a modern translation into the KJV documentary layer.
1Q20 / 1QapGen
Columns II–V: Lamech's alarm over Noah's extraordinary birth, fear concerning the Watchers, and consultation with Enoch.
Columns VI–XVII: a substantial Noah section commonly called the “Book of the Words of Noah,” including righteousness, warning, Flood, and post-Flood narrative.
4Q203 · 4Q530 · 4Q531 · 4Q532 · 4Q533
Aramaic fragments connected with the Enochic giant tradition preserve dreams, giant figures such as Ohya and Hahya, Enoch's role, and approaching judgment.
Because the manuscripts are fragmentary, the exhibit identifies manuscript numbers and avoids presenting reconstructed gaps as surviving continuous text.
4Q201–4Q212 family
Multiple Aramaic Enoch manuscripts at Qumran witness to the antiquity and circulation of Enochic traditions, including Watcher material represented in the surviving collection.

Where the ancient records converge
A blank cell does not mean a tradition denies the theme; it means this exhibit is not accounting an explicit matching passage in that source.

The textual record is not a single undifferentiated category
Hebrew Bible & New Testament
Genesis, Chronicles, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Matthew, Luke, Hebrews, Peter, and Jude.
1 Enoch · Jubilees · Sirach · 3 Maccabees
Ancient religious texts whose canonical status varies across Jewish and Christian traditions.
Genesis Apocryphon · Book of Giants · Aramaic Enoch
Ancient manuscript evidence from Qumran, identified by manuscript designation and fragmentary condition.
This documentary build now preserves the full KJV wording beneath each cited biblical summary, while keeping non-KJV ancient witnesses visibly separate by source and status.
Exhibit Revision History
This first documentary build establishes the textual architecture. It is intentionally source-heavy so later interpretive rooms can point back to a stable evidence base.
